‘ICT police to be equipped with modern technology’

Sheikh Rashid assures of upgrading training of policemen

ISLAMABAD:

The Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid has said on Wednesday that the Islamabad Capital Territory Police will be equipped with the latest technology and turned into an exemplary force for other law enforcement agencies to follow.

He added that the overall security arrangements in the city will be further improved to make the capital a safer place for the citizens.

The minister stated that vehicles with modern checking systems will also be introduced as unnecessary check posts have been removed from various points of the city. He said that closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed under the Safe City project is an advanced concept that will further help the police to identify suspects and criminals, easily.

Rashid maintained that it is not possible to meet policing challenges of the modern era without utilising the latest technology available. He mentioned that the Eagle Squad will also be provided with high-tech means to collect data of vehicles in the absence of the check posts.

The minister further said that CCTV cameras will be made functional in crime hit areas as part of an integrated system. He said that this will keep officers in the field updated on emergency matters. He added that the remaining check posts in the twin cities will be also be improved and assured that the law and order situation will be controlled within a month.

Rashid stressed that professional policing should be incorporated in order to promote the rule of law, adding that training for police officials will be upgraded to face modern challenges while special modules on morality, ethics and public dealing will also be integrated.

He also urged citizens to avoid lane violations and maintain traffic discipline to reduce road accidents.
