A local organisation decided to open e-health centres in 20 cities of the country to provide free treatment to children whose sex was not specified at the time of birth.

The Birth Defects Foundation would open the centres in Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar, Gilgit and other cities while the first e-health centre had been opened in Lahore, , according to a press release issued by the organisation on Saturday.

Ansar Javed, chairman of the foundation and a renowned psychologist, said earlier, patients and their parents had to come to the foundation’s head office in Lahore from far flung areas of the country for treatment.

“They had to come for check-ups for a period of six months to two years before surgery to consult a specialist endocrinologist,” he said, adding the commuting would be impossible for many families due to rising inflation and unemployment.

The initiative was taken to facilitate them so that they could approach a nearby centre in their city, he added.

Javed further added the e-health centres would be connected through a gadget to a Lahore-based doctor who would examine patients.

“The patients will not have to visit the head office every time,” Javed said, adding the patient would be called to the Lahore centre only for the surgery.
