Three people were killed in separate road accidents in Karachi on Wednesday.
A speeding water tanker ran over a man, on a motorcycle, near Malir Cantonment check-post no 6. As a result, the motorcyclist died on the spot.
The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.
The deceased was identified as Zahid Iqbal, 25, who was a resident of Safoora Goth and worked as a driver at a retired colonel's house in Malir Cantonment.
The residents of Safoora Goth gathered at the place of the accident and staged a protest against Iqbal's death. They said their protest will continue till the tanker driver is arrested.
The flow of traffic was affected due to the protest and long queues of cars appeared on the road.
Later, the police reached the spot and tried to negotiate with the protesters.
The protest ended after an hour, at the police's assurance of immediate arrest of the tanker driver.
According to Malir Cant SHO Faisal Latif, the driver of the water tanker had fled from the scene immediately after the accident. However, the police have taken the tanker into custody and they are trying to arrest the driver.
SHO Latif said they had contacted the tanker's owner and the driver would be arrested soon. In the meantime, another motorcyclist was killed after being hit by a speeding dumper truck near Chilghozi Cut at the Northern Bypass.
The deceased was identified as Imran Noor, 44. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities. Moreover, another motorcyclist was crushed to death by a passenger bus near Korangi Crossing.
The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities. The deceased was identified as Hassan Khan, 19, who was a resident of Korangi no 2.
