Cops arrest ‘terrorist of a banned outfit’

Claim the perp has been involved in the targeted killings of cops, extortion, terrorism, and other crimes

The Steel Town police claimed on Sunday to have arrested a terrorist associated with a banned terrorist outfit, who has been involved in the targeted killings of cops, extortion, terrorism, and other crimes. The police claimed to have found a pistol and a hand grenade in his possession.

The arrested suspect, identified as Muqeem Alias Shah, is the brother of a slain terrorist, Sheikh Mumtaz alias Firoun, according to police. Moreover, his two brothers, Sheikh Mohammad Moinuddin and Arbaz alias Aryan, were also arrested on November 21 along with an accomplice of theirs.

According to the police, the arrested suspect used to provide shelter to Mumtaz alias Firoun and several others. The members of the banned outfit also kept weapons, explosives and other items used in for terrorist activities at Muqeem's house, the police said.

The police further stated that Muqeem confessed during interrogation to have murdered assistant sub-inspector Mohammad Rizwan in Orangi Town on March 4, 2019. He further confessed to killing a citizen, Syed Shafqat, in the jurisdiction of the Iqbal Market police station, they said, adding that he was also involved in the killing of two police officials, Ahmed Ali and Allah Dino, in the limits of Mominabad police station on June 17, 2019.

Furthermore, he revealed that he had let Mumtaz alias Firoun use his mobile phone multiple times to demand extortion, according to the police. Mumtaz had demanded extortion money of Rs1 million from a trader, Muhammad Shahid, using Muqeem's mobile phone on December 28, 2018, where he had also threatened of killing him if he failed to pay the amount. Later, he also attacked the trader's residence to scare him.
