Wedding season is a real thing in Pakistan- it’s royal, lavish and grand. From appetising three or four course meals to elaborate rituals, to dancing and singing and of course the many wedding events that are spread out throughout weeks- it’s pure joy to be a part of someone’s big day! You will witness a wide array of colour, glitz and glam and lots of happy vibes.
But in the midst of a global pandemic, we must alter the way we live, change the manner we interact and adjust the style of socialising with people around us. Earlier this year, Zoom weddings started trending, and with the ceremonies broadcast over the internet, several guests decided to practice safety measures in style.
Even with intimate weddings taking place now with a limited count of guests attending the wedding events (as instructed by the government), attendees’ need to make sure they are dressed right and most importantly are keeping safe when socialising. And the one item that has ascended all types of protective covering and is now making a global fashion impact engulfing the weddings scenario worldwide is – the face mask.
Here is a quick guide on how to dress up for weddings during Covid-19
- Though contemporary wear is the new hot trend for weddings try to avoid western attires like skirts, plain tees, jeans etc. Follow the dress code.
- Don’t dress too casually as you are going to attend a festivity, and best way to be a part is by dressing up. Rather than going for the typical black, white and blue masks, make one that complements your outfit.
- Wearing a mask, is deemed absolutely necessary for all occasions, one can use the fabric of same motifs as their dress. You can also choose a mask with some interesting thread detailing on it.
- Sari – A sari is the collaboration of elegance, tradition and sophistication. Opt for printed or silk saris and pair them with statement jewels to stand out without looking over the top.
- Suits – Renowned for its versatility, comfort, ethnic authenticity, and beauty, its undoubtedly a quintessential attire for a desi wedding. The different styles of suits like A-line, Anarkali, caped, asymmetric; paired with comfortable straight paints, palazzos, churidars, etc, will give you a graceful ensemble.
- Anarkali – For a modish and regal look go for an Anarkali suit. These attires are fitted around the bust and gradually flare out as they fall. It’s the perfect swap for a western gown to a traditional dress. Try a flared or pleated floor length Anarkali with churidars or pants.
- Lenghas - Lengha cholis are the undisputed, crowned queens of desi wedding clothing. A basic set consists of a long skirt and a blouse paired with a dupatta. From classic voluminous flared lenghas to mermaid cut skirts you can go for any look according to your personal taste. Printed and plain lengha choli sets are all the rage this season!
- Sharara/gharara paired with crop tops or even straight kurtis, palazzo pants with slit tunics, trendy jacket style skirts, chic blouses with ruffled lenghas, peplum saris, pant saris and even cape styled ensembles, you have countless charismatic silhouettes to adorn.
