ISLAMABAD:

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has released the schedule for the by-election on the vacant seat of the Mayor of Islamabad. The by-election for the Islamabad mayor will be held on December 28. The seat was vacated due to the resignation of Sheikh Ansar Aziz. The term of local bodies of Islamabad expires on March 4, 2021, therefore, as per law an elected representative should remain in seat until then. The ECP has appointed Islamabad District Election Commissioner as the Returning Officer for the by-polls. According to the notification, nomination papers will be available on December 11 from the office of the Islamabad District Election Commissioner from 9am to 5pm. Objections to the nomination papers can be submitted till December 14. Candidates can file appeals against the Returning Officer's decisions on the nomination papers on December 17 at the Appellate Authority Office. Contestants for the mayor’s seat will be allotted election symbols on December 22, while by-elections for the vacant seat of mayor of Islamabad will be held on December 28. Islamabad west district and sessions judge has been appointed as the Appellate Authority
