Sindh sees highest single-day death toll in a month

Reports 27 fatalities, nearly 1,300 new Covid-19 cases, 1,043 fresh recoveries

As many as 27 coronavirus-related deaths were reported in Sindh on Tuesday - the highest in a single day over the past one month, said a statement issued by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on the day.

While the province saw its cumulative Covid-19 death toll climb to 2,962, another 1,291 persons tested positive for the coronavirus in Sindh, he said. Hence, the province's virus tally has increased to 175,642.

According to the statement, among the new cases, 989 have been reported from Karachi, 76 from Hyderabad, 36 from Mirpurkhas, 31 from Jamshoro, 21 from Matiari, 18 from Badin, 14 from Shaheed Benazirabad, 11 from Ghotki and as many from Thatta, nine from Sukkur, five from Tando Allahyar, six from Jacobabad, three each from Larkana and Umerkot, two from Shikarpur and one each from Dadu, Khairpur, Sanghar and Sujawal.

Moreover, the CM said 1,043 more patients had recovered from the infection, lifting the total number of recoveries in the province to 153,642.

Currently, 19,083 Covid-19 patients are under treatment in Sindh, he said, adding that 18,218 of them were in home isolation, 12 in quarantine centres and 808 in hospitals. Of them, at least 176 are in critical condition, with 72 on ventilators, according to the CM.

The CM has urged people to observe pandemic-related standard operating procedures, stay home as much as possible, wear mask when stepping out, wash hands regularly and avoid shaking hands with others. Otherwise, the second wave will turn out to be very dangerous, he warned.
