Legendary singer Alamgir Haq after 13-years of struggling with dialysis finally received a successful kidney transplant last week. In a video circulating on social media, the Albela Rahi singer shared the good news with his fans.
“By the grace of Allah and your prayers, after 13-years of continuous dialysis I have received a successful kidney transplant,” Alamgir said. “I got a call from Emery Hospital at 3 AM that a matching kidney has been found and I should reach the hospital in two hours.”
According to Alamgir, the same surgeon who had refused to do a transplant procedure on him some five years ago when he was tasked with his surgery. “My turn for the transplant had also come almost five years back but the same surgeon had refused to perform the operation after inspecting my kidneys in detail. My kidneys had enlarged unusually so he decided to remove them.”
Expressing contentment with the newly received transplant, Alamgir said, “The operation was successful. It has been a week since I have come home from the hospital.” At the same time, the singer revealed that he has been strictly instructed by doctors to self-isolate since his immune system is vulnerable right now. “I have been told not to meet anyone and to not go out under any circumstances. This is because my immune system will not be working at its fullest for at least a month. Subsequently, I have a high risk of contracting Covid-19.”
The singer also joked about being allowed to eat most of the things which were forbidden for him for almost 10 years. “I can eat everything now,” Alamgir chuckled. Concluding his message, the pop icon assured his fans that he will grace their television screens in the next few months.
The rumour mill
Earlier this year, rumours of the singer passing away had surfaced. Soon after the rumours were abuzz, veteran TV star Bushra Ansari shared a video on her Instagram, where she called the popular singer, inquiring his health. Sharing her phone conversation on social media, Bushra confirmed that Alamgir is alive and well.
"I was so scared when I came to know about the rumours," the Udaari actor was seen saying in the video, adding, "I've become habitual of you! Now that you have lived 100 years, you don't have a right to die anymore"
Alamgir was heard laughing in the video. "I've asked everyone to stop spreading false news. There are already so many sad incidents we have been hearing, I would never want to hear something like this," the Zebaish actor went on.
Despite suffering from Kidney ailments for over a decade, last year Alamgir presented a speech at an event organised by the Pakistan Air Force (PAF), where the attendees paid tribute to his endless devotion and unconditional contributions to the institute.
