The provincial government on Wednesday sanctioned funds worth over Rs539 million for rehabilitating the flood-hit areas of Upper Dir and Chitral districts.
This was announced by the Special Assistant to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister on Minorities Wazir Zada on Wednesday. The special assistant said that these funds will be utilised to repair, rehabilitate and rebuild the infrastructure which had been damaged during the recent floods in these two districts.
Wazir said that CM Mahmood Khan has fulfilled the promise he had made with the people of Chitral during a recent visit after severe floods in the district.
The special assistant further said that water supply schemes, damaged roads, bridges, and protection walls will also be repaired in the district.
He added that the provincial government has already released Rs110 million for the rehabilitation of infrastructure in Chitral while the district administration will soon initiate work in this regard.
In July, the Golen Gol area of Chitral witnessed widespread destruction after a glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) for the second consecutive year.
A girls' madrassa in Azghor village, dozens of livestock, vehicles and sheds were swept away as the floods inundated footpaths, roads bridges and embankments.
The floods cut the Golen valley off from the rest of the country after the few roads leading to it were either submerged or washed away.
