The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has started issuing new compressed natural gas (CNG) filling station licences.
The government had earlier allowed Ogra to issue liquefied natural gas (LNG)-based CNG licences following a decision that permitted the private sector the import of LNG.
The All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA) on Monday lauded the government’s decision and highlighted that the government was promoting CNG to reduce urban pollution, cut oil import bill and increase employment. “The government has taken several commendable steps including removing the ban on setting up new CNG filling stations,” remarked APCNGA Central Chairman Ghiyas Abdullah Paracha.
The regulatory authority has now started issuing licences for new CNG outlets to those who meet all the formalities while ban on the import of CNG kits has also been lifted and import duty and sales tax have been slashed to promote imports.
Paracha said latest CNG kits would be available in the country that would result in 15% extra mileage and savings for vehicles. He said LNG import by private sector would encourage consumption and conversion of vehicles to environment-friendly fuel.
