An alleged gang-rape victim from a village near Skardu told the Gilgit-Baltistan Supreme Appellate Court (SAC) on Monday that she wasn’t subjected to rape, court sources said.
Taking suo motu action last week after publication of news reports about the rape of a woman from the remote village of Rondu by a ‘gang of influential people’, the region’s apex court asked the IGP to submit a detailed report on Monday.
However, during proceedings held at the SAC today, the woman told the court that she had not been raped. The woman, who was accompanied by her brother and several relatives, said that a political rivalry could have led to publishing of the news reports, which had nothing to do with her.
Justice Mohammad Nawaz Abbasi was infuriated upon hearing this statement and took strong exception to the publication of a fake story by a local newspaper. “The publication of fake news (reports) in the paper is tantamount to disrespecting the woman,” the court adjudged, adding that the paper must compensate the victim for defaming her or face court action.
The court ordered those present in the room to leave for sometime so that judges could talk to the victims in privacy. Later orders were compiled and the hearing was adjourned.

@Naveed Sahid...Bhai, you are in minority here, not because you wrong but exactly opposite, because you are right. Tragedy of our times is, that truth often turns out to be in minority. It is interesting to see "Truth Prevails" threatening you on this page itself, :) that too under the name "truth prevails". What travesty!!! But fact is, everyone is free to have an opinion and has right to live his life in his way, or we claim, we are barbarians, nothing but pure barbarians.
@All; it should be noted that virginity is nothing to do with the religion, but it is the reason that women in those countries are behaving well where they have to face this stigma as compare to those where countries where they start practicing sex for experimentation. If women behave well, then they will not bring in any sort of string of stories of her affairs with her. The before marriage affairs of men will not be there, if the women can't afford it, but it may be that the men turn guys. However, a bit early marriages could solve this problem, instead of early age affairs. Be the way, monika who have affair with the x-president of usa is not living with a different identity, rather she cease to exist.
@naveed shahid: There is no mention of virginity on a nikkah form. Why on earth should there be? Methinks you'r an ignorant bharti posing as a pakistani...somebody check his ip address.
@naveed shahid: Praising westerns who themselves put condoms in the hands of their teenager daughters and get pleasure watching them on * movies.
Keep your under influential thoughts to yourself. Here you will end-up with gruesome consequences if ever try to promote this mentality here. And We mean it
@sarmad chandio....my dear whom u r praising about? those non-muslims which u r talking about, they accept a girl as a girlfriend but they will seldom give the honor of a wife to anyone...moreover the definition of girlfriend in west is 180 degrees opposite to that of us...Islam has given respect and protection to women, thats why it is the most rapidly spreading religion in the world, specially among the western women....the incident about which u r talking is not for the whole Muslim community, it is an individual case....Islam teaches us something else...but in our society we have made our own rules.......apart from every evil our society is far better then west...
@naveed shahid..........there is no such clause in NIKKAH FORM....im recently married and i havent seen such a thing.....if suppose u r true then what about those women who r going to NIKKAH second time, i mean widows and divorced ones??? then they will not be able to marry again.....
@Naveed:
The following points needs clarification
1- As far as I know there is no such clause in the form. If there is one plz give the reference to that clause.
2- Islam has given men the right to marry four women. Your suggestion for changing the Nikkah form (adding virgin clause for men to it) is not at all practical. It would mean interfering in Allah's command.
I don't know whether it would be a good suggestion to have mandatory rape test kit available and applied in these cases so as to know the truth. Trouble is, can we allow the truth to prevail in our society? Would it turn out beneficial or more harmful for women in our society?
@naveed shahid:
i've seen this mazhabi munafqat first hand. a second cousin of mine broke off his engagement when his fiance got raped in a dacoity at her house. and this was a couple that had know each other for over 8 years from o'levels onwards upto MBA.
this sick and discriminatory obsession of muslim men with female virginity must be stopped.the non-muslim americans or europeans that we love to abuse and curse all the time are a million times better than us ,they don't treat women as animals like we do, in know 4 female friends of mine who lost their virginity but were lucky enough to migrate to america and canada and are happily married today to white men.these same girls faced unmentionable amount of abuse and insult back home in pakistan where they were constantly told 'tum se ab kaun shaadi karayga,ab to tum mu dekhanay kay qabil nai rahi".
well society,it's you who shouldn't be able to show your faces as my friends are all happily married and enjoyig life to the full overseas.losing your virginity doesn't mean you have to lose your life.
I am sure she was threatened to take her charges back. These things keep happening and we don't do anything about them. We are heading back to stone age, while everyone else goes to 22nd century.
the rape victims in our society have to face double horrors as not only the hideous act of rape itself but society's attitude afterwards to the rape victim and her family. why is it that a raped girl is regarded by our public as having brought shame to her family? why is the rapist not treated like a pariah in our islamic republic?
and most of all what is up with the sick obsession of muslim men with female virginity?
why is their a discriminatory clause in the nikah form that makes it necessary for the bride to be a virgin but no such clause for the dulhay raja? why this blatant hypocrisy and double standards? why don't nikah forms make a dulhay's virginity also compulsory??
this abuse and persecution of women has led to the present sorry state of our country.double standards which discriminate horribly against women should be stopped. nikah forms need to be amended,either virginity should be for both or for none,just requiring brides to be virgins is vile and disgusting.
i guess mob justice has its work complete here.
political pressure?
