The Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry announced on Monday that the government is studying a proposal to operate an electric, automated train, which will run from the new Islamabad International Airport to the popular hill station of Murree.

In a message posted on the microblogging site Twitter on Monday, the federal minister said that the electric buses project for Islamabad has reached the expression of interest (EOI) level and plans are being made to launch an electric train which will run from the Islamabad International Airport (IIA).

“The next major project is the electric automatic train from IIA to Murree. The study of which has started and a meeting has been held with the planning ministry in this regard,” announced Chaudhry.

Last week, Chaudhry had said that the government is working on a plan to convert public transport vehicles to run on electricity in metropolitan areas of the country.

He had said that the federal capital will be the first city to receive the environmentally-friendly electric transport with a total of 38 electric buses by December this year.
