To support local filmmakers, Aga Khan University, Aga Khan Agency for Habitat and the University of Central Asia will be helping local filmmakers produce films through the Voices from the Roof of the World (VRM) programme.
Echoing the call to action of the Earth Shot Prize, VRW will help local filmmakers produce documentaries on the consequences of global warming for wildlife and highlight the consequences of climate change in Central and South Asia.
The VRW film series will be based on the model used by AKU Nairobi Kenya’s media and communications graduate school programme to produce award winning documentaries, collectively dubbed ‘Giving Nature a Voice,’ which comprises 52 half-hour-long films.
The programme aims to prod policymakers, business leaders and citizens to take action on climate change.
“We are literally seeing the earth’s future go up in flames. Only by working together across borders and cultures can we hope to stop this impending disaster. From farmers to filmmakers, from scientists to students, we can all play an important role in saving our planet,” said VRW project director Andrew Tkach.
The project will give vulnerable communities a voice and underscore the challenges of climate change, he opined.
