The Saeedabad police claimed to have arrested a suspect and confiscated 4.13 tonnes of betel nuts and a car from his possession during an operation on Wednesday. The operation was carried out on a tip-off regarding a smuggling bid. According to the Saeedabad police, the arrested suspect, Kaleemullah, was a member of a smuggling ring that brought betel nuts to Karachi from Balochistan. They added that the smuggled betel nuts were used in the manufacture of gutka, which is banned. According to the police, the confiscated consignment of betel nuts was worth over Rs6 million. The arrested suspect has been booked, they added.
