The residents of Lyari staged a demonstration in Mauripur Road on Friday, protesting the decrepit condition of the sewerage system and unavailability of water and electricity. Pointing out that women and children were most affected by the suspension of water and electricity supply in hot weather, the protesters decried that they were compelled to spend money on water tankers or seek alternatives. Cashing in on the opportunity, now water tanker suppliers have raised their rates, adding to the residents’ problems, they complained. They claimed that relevant authorities had been informed of the situation multiple times, but in vain.
