The United Nations has recently shortlisted a number of celebrities and public figures for a film based on actions that can tackle contemporary issues, ranging from Covid-19 to poverty and inequality.

Among these fortunate figures, is Pakistani activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai.

The 30-minute film titled Nations United: Urgent Solutions for Urgent Times is slated for a global broadcast and will premiere on the United Nation's YouTube channel on September 19, the UN announced on Monday.

The film will feature performances from the multi-Grammy winner Beyoncé, singer Burna Boy, followed by appearances by education campaigner and UN Messenger of Peace, Yousafzai, UN goodwill ambassadors actor Don Cheadle, actor Michelle Yeoh, and UNESCO special peace envoy Forest Whitaker.

The UN promised that the film sets out the actions needed to build a better world as the coronavirus pandemic threatens global progress to end extreme poverty, achieve gender equality, promote human rights, tackle injustice and address climate change.

"The film will take audiences on a dynamic exploration of the times we live in, the multiple tipping points our planet faces, and the interventions that could transform our world over the next 10 years," the UN claimed on its website.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed will also appear in the film. The website further added that Oscar-winning actor Julia Roberts will also host a radio broadcast and podcast version of the show.
