Shopkeepers rough up policemen during raid

Cops were checking shops allegedly selling stolen cell phones

Khanna police have registered a case against those shopkeepers who assaulted a police team at Aqeel Plaza during its raid at mobile shops following the information provided by a dacoit selling cellular phones at such shops.

Officials said that a team of Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) of Islamabad police had arrested an alleged robber, Zeeshan Tariq. During investigation, the suspect had confessed to selling snatched handsets at two shops in Aqeel Plaza situated at the Khanna Bridge area.

Subsequently, police team took the suspect with them to Aqeel Plaza to physically point out the shops where he sold the snatched phones. On is pointation, police raided the shops and recovered receipts of mobile phones the shopkeepers had purchased from Tariq.

However, during the raid, the alleged shopkeepers resisted police team to avoid arrest and assisted the arrested robber to escape from there.

Police registered case against shopkeepers Sahil and Arman along with others for assaulting police team, breaking the wind screen of a police vehicle and tearing uniforms of policemen. Officials said that Islamabad IGP Aamir Zulfiqar has directed Rural Zone SP Farooq Amjed Buttar to ensure arrest of people who had assaulted policemen.
