Sajnrani calls for enhancing parliamentary cooperation with Azerbaijan

Sanjrani also invited Azerbaijan parliamentary delegation to visit Pakistan

Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani on Saturday underscored the need for further promotion and strengthening of parliamentary cooperation between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.

During an online meeting with the Speaker of Azerbaijan, Sanjrani said that Pakistan had good bilateral relation with Azerbaijan but there was a need to enhance inter-parliamentary engagements and exchange programmes for the capacity-building.

The Senate Chairman stressed that joint efforts were indispensable to overcome the issues facing the two countries, including poverty, inequality, denial of human rights, extremism, terrorism and climate changes.

He said Pakistan and Azerbaijan were both members of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Asian Parliamentary Assembly and coordination between parliaments of both the countries on the multilateral forums was quite important.

Sanjrani stressed the need for utilising these forums in favourable manner for prosperity and peaceful future. He thanked Azerbaijan for supporting Pakistan’s stance at international forum especially on the issue of Kashmir.

He urged that the people of Kashmir direly needed support of brother countries against atrocities and human rights violations by the Indian army. He said the world must play its role to solve the Kashmir issue in accordance with United Nations resolutions.

While talking to the Azerbaijan speaker, the Senate chairman asked for support in the upcoming IPU election where he was a candidate for the IPU presidency. The speaker thanked the Senate chairman and assured him of their support in the upcoming IPU election.

Sanjrani also invited Azerbaijan parliamentary delegation to visit Pakistan.
