Pakistan limited-overs captain Babar Azam played a 42-run knock from 35 balls, while playing his first match for Somerset in the Vitality T20 Blast on Thursday. However, it was the 25-year-old sporting an alcohol logo on his kit which sparked outrage on social media.

Tribute is the title and shirt sponsor in addition to being the official beer of Somerset.

Babar and his fellow Pakistani cricketer Azhar Ali, while representing Somerset last year, refused to don the alcohol company’s logo.

According to sources, the logo was left on his shirt by mistake. Somerset will remove the logo before the next match, which is on Friday.

Many Muslim cricketers in the past have refused to don alcohol logos on their jersey. South African cricketer Hashim Amla sacrificed the part of his match fee for not promoting the alcoholic product while playing for his national team.
