Cantonments delimit wards for LG polls

RAWALPINDI:

After completion of the delimitation process, preparations for the local bodies’ elections in the 43 cantonment boards across the country have started.

Meanwhile, the civil governments have yet to prepare for the upcoming local government elections.

The new local government system introduced in Punjab, however, will not apply to the 20 cantonment boards across the province. Unlike the rest of the province, the cantonment boards will not have neighbourhood or village councils. Rather representatives will be elected based on wards and any elected candidate will be called a ward member instead of a councillor.

The Rawalpindi, Wah, and Chaklala cantonment boards will have 10 wards each.
