RAWALPINDI:

An alleged thief pretended to commit suicide to escape arrest.

Aqib Karim told police that he was depositing Rs3 million at a bank, when a man, later identified as Rustam started talking to him. Karim said as Rustam left, he felt that he has swiped a packet of currency notes. Karim immediately checked his cash and found a Rs100,000 packet missing.

On raising alarm, a bank guard overpowered Rustam and found the cash bundle. Rustam immediately swallowed a pill and soon foam started coming from his mouth, but he did not die. Subsequently, people beat the thief. Rustam was later handed over to the police.
