At least two people were burnt to death while four others sustained burn injuries after a fire erupted in a shoe factory in the provincial capital on Sunday.
Rescue 1122 officials said that the incident occurred in a three-storey building in the Thanda Kohi area of the walled city of Peshawar.
The lower portion of the building owned by a local identified as Kabir housed a shoe factory.
This is where the blaze reportedly erupted and engulfed the entire building within minutes. Employees working in the factory fell unconscious due to the dense smoke.
Locals claimed that the fire intensified into a huge blaze due to the huge stock of flammable material in the factory, including several sheets of leather, drums of chemical and paper.
The two people who lost their lives in the fire have been identified as 10-year-old girl Shaista and Janadad Khan.
Apart from the factory workers, rescue officials including station in-charge Zia, firefighter Asad and medical technician Adil, sustained injuries during the operation.
Workers in the factory claimed that the fire had destroyed a huge stock of leather, furniture and other valuables.
A Rescue 1122 spokesperson said that after three hours of struggle, they finally managed to put the fire out, saving many lives.
