Girls on Monday bagged the top positions in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Part-II Annual Exams 2020 (matriculation) as their results were announced.
The Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) announced the results for matriculation under the promotion policy of the federal government.
This year, the annual matriculation examinations could not be conducted due to the novel coronavirus (Covid-19). Hence, the results were prepared under the “Promotion Policy of Federal Government” whereby students were declared passed or failed as per their results for grade nine while students were also given 30 per cent extra marks.
Hence, 93,304 regular, private and ex-candidates - who had registered for the exams - were declared to have “appeared” in the SSC Part II examinations. Of these, 85,151 students were declared as passed with a passing ratio of 91.26 per cent.
Matric, inter exams may be delayed or cancelled
Overall, girls were dominant, clinching the top slots in the exams.
During a result announcement and awards ceremony at the FBISE headquarters in Islamabad on Monday, Parliamentary Secretary for Federal Education and Professional Training Wajiha Akram congratulated students, parents and teachers over the successes in SSC exams.
Explaining the extraordinary circumstances surrounding the exams and subsequently their results, Akram said that the announcement of results, conducting exams and reopening of schools were major challenges for the government in the wake of the pandemic.
She added that during a meeting of education ministers from all provinces in an Inter-Provincial Minister Conference (IPEMC), a special promotion policy was formulated under which all SSC students would be promoted without exams.
The parliamentary secretary further said that the government is now looking to the new academic session, adding that they hope to introduce the new, uniform curriculum next year.
Earlier, FBISE Chairman Rao Atiq said that they have uploaded the result on to the FBISE website, while they have already conveyed it via SMS to all candidates. Result cards shall also be dispatched to them at their listed addresses or respective institutions soon, he said.
The students thanked their parents and teachers for believing in them.
Position holders
In Science Group, the first position was shared by Khunsha Nisha Malik from the Islamabad College for Girls in Sector F-6/2, and Menahil Iman from Army Public School and College for Girls on Range Road in Westridge-III area of Rawalpindi Cantonment. They both obtained 1,097 marks.
HEC directs varsities to declare exam policies
The second position was also jointly held by Faheem Abbas from the Garrison Cadet College in Kohat and Zartasha Abbasi from the Garrison Academy in Kharian Cantt. Both scored 1,096 marks.
The third position was shared by 11 students who all secured 1,095 marks including Qayyum Ahmad from Garrison Boys School on Tufail Road in Lahore Cantt, Usman Farooq from the Army Public School and College Boys on Ordinance Road in Rawalpindi, Abdulah Shahid from HITEC School and College for Boys in Taxila Cantt, Ubaid Khan from Garrison Cadet College in Kohat, Jalal Khan from the Cadet College in Wana area of South Waziristan Agency, Ifra Anjum from the Army Public School and College for Girls on Humayun Road in Rawalpindi Cantt, Masabeh Minhas from DHA Senior School for Girls in Lahore Cantt, Ayesha Haral from the Army Public School in Mahfooz Shaheed Garrison of Lahore Cantt, Khadijatul Zahra from Garrison Academy for Girls on Sarfraz Rafiqui Road in Lahore Cantt, Zainab Naqib from the HITEC School and College for Girls in Taxila Cantt and Hoorain Kishwar from Army Public School and College for Girls on The Mall in Peshawar Cantt.
In the Humanities Group, the top position was secured by Ayesha Ali from the DHA Senior School for Girls in Lahore Cantt, while the second position was clinched by Haris Muavia from Institute of Islamic Sciences from Satra Meel in Islamabad. The third position was taken by Zakaria Basharat from Institute of Islamic Sciences Satra Meel in Islamabad.
