In court: Hearing adjourned without proceeding
An accountability court adjourned on Saturday without proceedings the hearing of a corruption reference. The hearing was adjourned until July 21 because jail officials did not present former Fishermen's Cooperative Society chairperson Nisar Morai, accused of corruption worth millions of rupees, in court.
Resisting robbery: Man shot and injured in SITE
A man was shot and injured for offering resistance during a robbery in SITE late on Friday night. The injured, identified as Rehman Gul, was taken to Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital for treatment. The police revealed that Gul sustained a bullet wound in his arm, adding that they were trying to trace the suspects.
Child dies after receiving 'wrong injection'
A child died after allegedly being administered the wrong injection by a doctor at a private clinic in Faqeera Goth on Friday night. The body of six-year-old Shehzadi was initially taken to a private hospital and later shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities. According to SITE Super Highway police station duty officer ASI Rana Asif, Shehzadi's family claimed that Shehzadi's mother had taken her to the clinic for treating an ear infection, but the doctor had allegedly given the young girl the incorrect injection, causing her death on the spot. Asif added that the cause of death would be determined once the police receive the postmortem report. The body was handed over to the family after the completion of medico-legal formalities.
PSP lambasts raised medicine costs
With unemployment, high inflation and starvation plaguing the people, the hiking of medicine prices is a cruel act by the government, claimed Pak Sarzameen Party chairperson Syed Mustafa Kamal on Saturday. Terming the decision hostile towards the poor, Kamal stated, "There is not a single government official representing the poor and middle class. As a result, the elites in government are making decisions while ignoring a large section of society." He further stated that the prices of medicines were doubled just a few months back and that the decision to raise them once more was unwelcome as the country struggled amid the coronavirus crisis.
