Three killed in accident on MM Road

Victims were traveling in car that collided with tractor trolley

BHAKKAR:

Three people were killed in a collision between a car and a tractor trolley on MM Road on Saturday.

The deceased were reported to be residents of Piplan tehsil of Mianwali district.

The fatal accident took place near Chandni Chowk on Multan-Mianwali Road. As resulted, three people travelling in the car were severely injured. Rescue 1122 teams reached the spot and provided first aid to the injured, but they succumbed to their injuries on the way to the nearby rural health centres in Hafizwala and Harnoli.

The deceased were identified as 24-year-old Khalid Mahmood, son of Ghulam Hussain, 38-year-old Burhan, son of Usman Ali, and 66-year-old Alam Deen, son of Ghulam Rasool.

Two killed, 7 injured in road accidents

Accidents on the Multan-Mianwali Road have become an almost daily occurrence. As a result, a number of lives have been lost in the past few months. The MM Road is known among local people as dangerous for travel as it has been in a state of disrepair for a long time. This road is used by all the heavy traffic between Karachi and Peshawar.

In order to ensure prevention of accidents, the Punjab Police additional inspectors general of traffic and patrolling recently formed joint checking squads in the Sargodha and Dera Ghazi Khan divisions. Orders were issued to the joint squads of the traffic and patrolling police to ensure observance of traffic rules on MM Road to prevent accidents. In this regard, Bhakkar Traffic DSP Nelofar Hayat told The Express Tribune that she was investigating the accident. “We have set up three checkpoints on MM Road at Khansar, Sarai Mohajer and Fazil to ensure compliance with the rules related to load and speed limit.”

The official said 10 cases had also been registered against drivers for speeding and overloading in different police stations. More than 900 vehicles have been challaned during the joint campaign. A campaign is underway to make ensure that all the traffic on the road follows the laws. The DSP said lectures and pamphlets on traffic laws were being arranged to help save lives lost in accidents.
