‘Funds being released for cleaning drains’

PPP minister instructs local government officials to focus on clearing choking points

KARACHI:

Announcing that funds were being issued to all district municipal corporations (DMCs) to clean rainwater drains in their areas, Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah directed all local government departments on Tuesday to focus on clearing the choking points of rainwater drainage, sewers and underpasses to avoid flooding.

Addressing a meeting at the emergency control room set up at Sindh Local Government Department's office, he instructed all local government department officials to cooperate with their subordinates in the case of any emergency so that no hindrance occured in the deliverance of services to the public and that the system of local government was strengthened.

The minister directed all the relevant institutions to ensure all internal issues and conflicts were dealt with through consultation and mediation.

Shah further instructed local government officials to take special notice when it came to Yousuf Goth, as the area suffered immensely due to the monsoon rainfalls in the preceding year.
