ISLAMABAD:

Even as universities focus on developing skills and providing critical knowledge to students to help build their careers and extracurriculars and hence contribute to the development of the country, it is also important to create an interest in students for literary activities.

This was stated by educators as the Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) in collaboration with Inter-University Consortium and the Islamia University of Bahawalpur organized an "online, new generation mushaira" for students of 30 different universities the country.

PAL Chairman Dr Yousuf Khushk said that the academy is trying to promote literary activities even during the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, adding that the online mushaira was held to provide opportunities and a platform for the new generation to come forward and express through their literary creations.

Islamia University Bahawalpur Vice-Chancellor Dr Engineer Athar Mehboob said that along with higher education in the new generation, creating an interest in poetry and literature is also an important need of the day.

Dr Mehboob hoped that such mushairas can help create an interest in poetry and literature amongst the younger generation, adding that people with literary inclinations can play a positive role in society.
