Fire sweeps through two train coaches

PR officials said that an inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the fire

SIALKOT: Two coaches of the Allama Iqbal Express were completely burnt in a fire that erupted suddenly when the train was at a washing line near Wazirabad Junction in the wee hours of Thursday.

According to senior officials of Pakistan Railways (PR), the fire erupted in the coaches mysteriously when Allama Iqbal Express train reached the washing line of Wazirabad Junction from Sialkot.

The train had arrived from Karachi and was sent for washing at the PR cleaning facility.

The railway officials said that the coaches caught up in the blaze were separated from the train immediately to prevent the entire train from catching fire.

Rescue 1122 officials were able to extinguish the blaze after several hours of firefighting.

Official sources said, a few of the PR staff and passengers were also present in the train, but they all remained safe.

PR officials said that an inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the fire.
