PESHAWAR:

Police Inquiry and Inspection Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Sultan Haneef Orakzai announced the dismissal of over 100 policemen formerly serving in different districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) on the grounds of negligence.

He said this during a press conference here on Tuesday. The dismissed officials, who included DSPs, inspectors and sub-inspectors, have also gotten reservation notices.

Earlier, while admitting that flaws exist in the police system, he noted that steps have been taken to remove these imperfections.

He said the police had received complaints where first information reports (FIR) were not registered and warrantless police raids were conducted on houses, but pointed out that effective measures were taken to increase police-public liaison.

Police-public liaison is crucial for eliminating crime and there is a dire need to improve the police’s relationship with the public, as well as its image.

He said that station house officers are being directed to register FIRs and be helpful for people.
