ISLAMABAD: The apex civic agency in the federal capital will soon start work on providing a storm drain system in Sectors I-11/1 and I-12/1 with the relevant formations directed to arrange tenders for these projects before the Eidul Fitr holidays.

Under the project, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) will develop a network for drains to channel rainwater from the roads and streets of the sectors, a statement said.

The step is being taken in line with the policy of the authority to complete development works in the stalled sectors particularly for boosting residential development which was halted since decades.

CDA administration had directed concerned formations to ensure funding for the subject work.

In a meeting of CDA’s development working party (DWP) in October last year, the project concept-I (PC-I) and PC-IV worth Rs2.6 billion for carrying out development works in sector I-11 were approved.

Consequently, upon approval of the project costs, the respective formations were directed to fulfil formalities so that the work of the respective formation can be carried out simultaneously.

In this context, different departments including SNGPL were approached for the provision of a gas network and other amenities pertaining to the respective departments.

Furthermore, the authority during its board meeting last November also approved the allocation of 18.6 kanals of land for the construction of a 132 kilovolt (kV) grid station in Sector I-11/2 for the provision of electricity in Sector I-11 and I-12.

It is pertinent to mention here that nearly a year ago, development activities in the city started to gain momentum. However, after taking up development in the stalled sectors, the incumbent management of CDA took consolidated steps for completing development works and provision of basic amenities and missing facilities in these sectors. As a result of the consistent efforts, works on different projects are in progress, few are in advance stages and many are in pipeline.
