FAISALABAD:

A dwarf couple tied the knot on Tuesday amid great celebration.

According to eyewitnesses in Gatti village, Shehzad Aslam married his relative Asiya on Tuesday morning. “Everyone was very happy about the union and hundreds of people attended the wedding function,” said a guest at the wedding, Musarrat.

Shehzad and Asiya both have congenital dwarfism and are both a little over 3 feet tall. The wedding reception and baarat was led by several of Shehzad’s other dwarf friends. “We are so happy for them both. They have liked each other for years and the families finally agreed to the marriage,” Rasheed added. “It is harder to find a life partner who has the same condition but Shehzad has managed to do so and he is extremely happy,” he added.

The wedded couple expressed their joy on the occasion. “We are extremely happy about the marriage and our families support,” Asiya said. Shehzad Aslam said that he and his wife would be relocating from Faisalabad to Sailkot, where he had recently been offered work at a local restaurant.

Locals at the wedding said that they greatly enjoyed the wedding ceremony. “The couple seemed incredibly happy and there were over a dozen dwarves at the wedding ceremony,” said a caterer at the function Saleem. “There were over 300 guests at the function and it was a lavish function,” he added. “I am happy for them. They have found each other despite the odds,” he said.

“I have never performed such a marriage and I was delighted at performing the ceremony,” said Maulvi Asadullah, the qari at the wedding. “I recited a special dua for the pair. I hope they find happiness,” he added.

“We both have known each other since we were young and we liked each other. We eventually told our families and they approved the match,” Shehzad told reporters at the function.

“Our parents were unsure about us getting married. They kept saying that it would mean our children would also be born with our condition. Eventually I convinced them that no ‘normal sized’ person would ever marry me anyhow and they gave their consent,” Asiya said.

Shehzad is 38 years old and Asiya is 24 years old.
