Around 100 students still in Kyrgyzstan: Basit

Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit said on Wednesday that there may be about a hundred students in Bishkek city of Kyrgyzstan, although most of the students have come back to Pakistan.

Talking to Express 24/7 he said that there is no Pakistani in or around the Osh city, though there are some Pakistanis in the capital Bishkek and surrounding areas and they are safe. There is no violence there.

He said that the airports are operational in those areas, which is why they are not considering evacuation of these Pakistanis.

Basit said that a total of 600 students study in Bishkhek but most of them are in Pakistan on summer vacations. The students who are still there have stayed back to take their exams after one and half week and then they too will return to the country.

More than 200 Pakistani students along with the body of Ali Raza, were brought back to Pakistan on Tuesday. These students were from the city of Osh which is currently overcome by ethnic violence.
