Kite association vows to celebrate Basant

Meanwhile, the sale of kites and strings has soared in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: After denouncing the district administration’s orders against the celebration of Basant, the Kite Association has decided to extend the celebration of the annual spring festival to all parts of the garrison city.

Earlier, the association had announced to limit celebrations to the cantonment areas.

Meanwhile, the sale of kites and strings has soared in the city. After the announcement was made on celebrating Basant — which marks the arrival of spring —traders found a way to dodge the police to transport kites and strings to their destinations. They said that one of the many vehicles transporting kites and strings deliberately stays ahead of others where the threat of getting caught by the police was high.

They added that once the police seized and impounded one vehicle, it considered that job for the day was done and in this way, the remaining trucks easily reach their destinations.
