NICVD conducts certification, appreciation ceremony

53 fellows complete training in different cardiology sub-specialties

The National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) conducted a certification and appreciation ceremony for its fellow students on Wednesday.

A total of 53 fellows were awarded certificates for successfully completing post-fellowship training in the sub-specialities of interventional cardiology, clinical cardiac electrophysiology, echocardiography, cardiac surgery and paediatric cardiology.

Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister Murtaza Wahab, the chief guest at the ceremony, expressed appreciation for the NICVD and its management for being one of the leading cardiac hospitals in the country, pointing out that the institution was ranked highly, both nationally and internationally.

Wahab added that the NICVD had been taking important initiatives by upgrading curricula, improving teaching practices, fostering research and setting high standards in line with the international benchmarks. He maintained that these important initiatives and processes of the NICVD's postgraduate programmes had created benefits for Sindh and Pakistan as a whole.

Meanwhile, in his welcome address, NICVD executive director Professor Nadeem Qamar stated that the fellowship programme focused on producing skilled doctors, equipped with the highest standards of leadership and management skills as well as ethical practices, who are able to function as competent and compassionate specialists.

Qamar added that in 2015 there was only one NICVD, but now there are ten NICVD hospitals and 15 units across Sindh, providing free, state-of-the-art cardiac treatment to patients at their doorstep.
