ISLAMABAD: Azad Jammu and Kashmir President Sardar Masood Khan on Monday strongly condemned the firing by Indian border forces at civilians residing along the Line of Control (LoC) in AJK, ensuing injuries to 10 people including women and children.

He described the unprovoked Indian troops' firing in different sectors of LoC as a ‘cowardly act’ and an attempt to divert the world's attention from the worst situation in Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJ&K).

Commenting on the fresh spate of Indian shelling across the LoC, the AJK president said that New Delhi’s war hysteria is threatening peace and security in the region.

Warning about India’s extremist approach, he said that around half-a-million people of 80,000 families are in danger as the Modi-led government’s war frenzy can create IOK like humanitarian crisis on this side of the border.

He went on to say that the last year was the worst year for people residing along the LoC in Azad Kashmir, as unprovoked Indian shelling had killed over 60 civilians along with livestock being affected , leaving 300 seriously injured or disabled, destroying houses and crops, and ruining infrastructure.

UN must intervene in Kashmir, urges minister

Calling upon the international community, particularly the United Nations, the AJK president urged international organisations to exert pressure on the Modi-led regime to stop unprovoked firing on the civilian population.

“It may be recollected that India under its hegemonic designs, has stepped up unprovoked firing in different sectors of the Line of Control in Azad Kashmir, and the international community has been frequently criticising it,” he said, adding that the sordid exercise by India continues unabated.

President Masood further reiterated that India is whipping up a militarist and war psychoses by targeting civilian with the most lethal weapons including cluster ammunition and snipers.

Urging United Nations Military Observers Group for India and Pakistan to effectively monitor ceasefire violation, he also questions on why UN Secretary General and Security Council fail to take cognizance of such violations regularly reported by the UNMOGIP.
