KARACHI: The University of Karachi (KU) has signed a memorandum of understanding with SWVL, a private app-based transport operating service, in order to provide improved transport services for faculty, students and other regular visitors at modest fares.

According to the agreement, SWVL will run vans between the university and certain set locations. The transport service will also be given internal access to the KU campus to facilitate students, staff, and faculty members and will act as a subsidised shuttle service.

Moreover, the company will serve passengers associated with KU at lower fares as compared to their current pricing model on the routes throughout the city.

It will further roll out additional routes at subsidised prices for special events at the university, such as convocations or admission tests, while both SWVL and KU will use their social media accounts to keep people updated on key events, activities and collaborations.

As per the signed MoU, the app and the varsity will work together to place signage across different locations on campus to give students better access and visibility for the van routes running from KU. SWVL will also sponsor events and conferences at Karachi University with up to one million rupees per annum, including societies' events, conferences, sports kits or other similar proposals.
