CBC seeks report on illegal, crumbling structures

CBC officials have five days to survey areas to identify dilapidated buildings, submit reports

KARACHI: Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) Executive Officer Rana Kashif Shahzad has sought the details of illegal and crumbling structures situated within the jurisdiction of CBC.

According to the directives issued by Shahzad on Friday, two teams of CBC officials will survey various areas to identify dilapidated buildings and illegal constructions and will submit a report within five days. The teams are headed by Senior Engineer Asif Bhatti.

Of the two teams, one has been assigned to visit Delhi Colony and Punjab Colony and the other has been instructed to pay visits to P&T Colony, Madniabad, Chandio Village, Bakhshish Village, Jamhoria Colony, Khaliquzzaman Colony and Lower Gizri.

According to a CBC spokesperson, the step is being taken in response to increasing complaints of violation of building by-laws and the growing presence of crumbling structures in katchi abadis, at risk of collapsing. He said the all legal requirements would be fulfilled following the submission of the report by the CBC officials and a large-scale operation would then be launched to raze illegal and dilapidated buildings.

The officials have also been directed by the CBC executive officer to not show any leniency to any person found to be providing patronage for the construction of illegal buildings.
