QUETTA: Balochistan Minister for Agriculture Zamarak Khan Achakzai has said that the development of province is linked with the advancement in the field of farming.

“Government is taking priority measures to establish the sector in accordance with the needs of modern time by building the capacity of agriculturists, while facilitating them with modern agri equipment,” he said, while talking to a delegation of agriculturists and farmers.

“Agriculture is the most important sector of the province because more than 70% of the people earn their livelihoods from it," he added.

Achakzai said that in collaboration with China, innovations will be introduced in the field of agriculture and several projects will be started soon. "There are plans to increase farmers' efficiency, create awareness, and impart training and guidance in crop fields which are less productive. This will lead to unprecedented improvements in the agriculture sector," he said.

The delegation was told that the government was providing tractors on easy installments to the agriculturists, which would benefit the small scale farmers.

Achakzai urged the landlords to play their role in resolving the issues of the cultivators at the provincial and federal level.

He said in view of the locusts attack in different areas of Balochistan, the agriculture department had been directed to guide and provide assistance to the landlords and farmers so that the proportion of loss was at minimal.
