KARACHI: Sindh Information, Archives and Labour Minister Saeed Ghani welcomed on Wednesday the release of former president and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-Chairperson Asif Ali Zardari from jail on bail, and expressed the hope that the "judiciary's decision on PPP leader Faryal Talpur's bail plea would also be based on merit."

He gave these statements while talking to media persons outside the Sindh Assembly building, as he distributed sweets, celebrating Zardari's release.

Ghani congratulated the nation on the occasion and said that the PPP had for long maintained that being granted bail was the former president's right but he did not want to apply for one on his own. "However, he availed the option of getting a bail following [persistent] requests by his family and party members," Ghani added.   Responding to a question, Ghani claimed that Zardari's arrest, as well as that of Talpur, was a consequence of "fake cases." He further informed the media that Zardari will continue his medical treatment in Pakistan.
