PDWP approves projects worth Rs8.18b

15 projects in the agriculture sector in merged districts approved

PESHAWAR: A key body of the provincial government on Friday approved 20 projects worth Rs8.177 billion, with several projects to set up and uplift veterinary care in the newly-merged tribal areas.

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) met with Additional Chief Secretary Atif Rehman. It was attended by members of PDWP, concerned departments and districts-level officers from the newly-merged tribal districts (NMTDs).

The forum considered 21 projects of different sectors, including agriculture, home, higher education and health.  It approved 20 of these projects while one project was deferred due to inadequate design and was returned to its respective department for rectification.

The PDWP approved a project under the Accelerated Implementation Programme (AIP) and 10 Years Development Programme (TYDP) worth Rs945 million.

Among the projects approved in the agriculture sector, was the establishment and construction of veterinary facilities and provision of de-worming vaccine, medicine for all existing regular veterinary institutions in NMTDs.

Another project on creating a disease-free zone through mass vaccination and treatment in feasible districts on a pilot basis was approved.

It also approved the opening of three civil veterinary directorates, 23 veterinary centres, 16 AICS and upgrading a CVD to CVH status in Lakaro area of Mohmand tribal district.

The opening of eight veterinary centres and eight AICS in Frontier Region (FR) Lakki were also approved.

The PDWP also approved opening 41 veterinary centres, 22 AICs and upgrading a CVD to CVH in South Waziristan tribal district. Three Civil Veterinary Centres (CVC), nine AICs and upgrading four CVDs to CVH in Orakzai tribal district were also approved.

Opening of five CVDs, five CVCs, six AICs, and upgrading two CVDs to CVHs in Bajaur was also approved.

Five veterinary dispensaries, five CVC, 10 AICs and upgrading a CVC to CVD in FR Bannu. Further, 18 CVCs And 26 AICs In Khyber tribal district were also approved.

Establishment of a Semen Production Unit in Jamrud and a breed and veterinary improvement centre in erstwhile federally administered tribal areas In (Fata).

Further, capacity building of Fata livestock directorate, establishing a model dairy farm and promoting agriculture and horticulture activities in the tribal areas.

Moreover, it opened five CVCs and eight CVDs, 22 AICs and a diagnostic laboratory in the Kurram tribal district.

It also approved a provision to procure earthmoving machinery for land reclamation in NMTDs.

A project of the home sector for Torkham Border Operation System through the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the National Database Regulatory Authority (NADRA) in Khyber tribal district was also approved.

In the higher education sector, the PDWP approved a project to rehabilitate and strengthen government colleges in Swat and Tank.

Construction of a building for the Commerce College near Karak was also approved. Further, the provision of transport facilities to higher educational facilities (operational cost through third party transport providers) was also approved.

For the health sector, the second phase of a project to improve and standardize the Mardan district headquarters hospital (DHQ) was approved.
