KARACHI: The doctors of the National Institute of Child Health (NICH) said on Saturday that the six-year-old boy from Larkana, Hasnain Bughio, who was attacked by half a dozen dogs on Thursday is now in stable condition.

"He is still on the ventilator but I must say he is recovering," said NICH head Dr Jamal Raza. He added that the best treatment was being provided to the injured boy. According to him, two surgeons of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) are also on board to assist the specialists at NICH.

Meanwhile, the family of Hasnain said that no one has informed them of how long they are to stay in the city. "We are living outside the hospital," complained Hasnain's uncle Saddam. "We don't have any relatives in the city."

"Doctors of the hospital cooperate with us and are trying their best but we are not told about his condition," Saddam said. He said that Hasnain's father and mother were also waiting outside the hospital.

Hasnain's family complained that they have been supporting the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) but their area representative, MNA Nazir Ahmed Bughio has not contacted them. "We are in pain. We need the support of our leader."

Hasnain, son of Ghulam Hussain, was attacked on Thursday by a pack of stray dogs near his house located in Habib Bughio village, some five kilometres from Larkana city.

After being rescued by the villagers, the boy was first brought to Chandka Medical College Hospital, Larkana, in critical condition. He was shifted to the city on Friday morning and has been kept under observation at NICH since.
