Mahira Khan receives heartfelt letter from UNHCR as Goodwill Ambassador of Pakistan

"My Ama was crying and my Aba was smiling his biggest smile," said the actor about her humanitarian appointment

Mahira Khan is not only an actor. In appreciation of her humanitarian efforts, the star has recently been appointed as United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Goodwill Ambassador for Pakistan.

Mahira received a heartfelt letter from the UN Refugee Agency when she was given the opportunity and took to Instagram to share her joy alongside her parents.

"I received the sweetest letter from UNHCR for my parents. Needless to say it made me extremely emotional. My Ama was crying and my Aba was smiling his biggest smile," she wrote on the post.

"Sometimes I forget that I have been chosen to be put in the position that I am in, given the platform I have been given and the kind of love that I receive," Mahira shared joyfully. "I hope and pray that I can always always uphold the responsibility I have been given by my country, my fans and my loved ones inshAllah."

The Superstar actor ended her emotional response with a dedication to her parents. "Forever grateful, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hafeez R Khan."

Mahira also shared a post of her receiving the official UNHCR appointment. She wore a traditional white peshwas ensemble as she was presented with the award.

Earlier, Mahira said she was grateful and honoured to be a UNHCR ambassador for her country on Twitter. “Proud to be born to a motherland that has opened its arms to refugees for over 40 years,” she wrote following the announcement.



The celebrity continued that the cause was not limited to one country, and there “should be some responsibility sharing”.

The UNHCR is a global organisation dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for refugees, forcibly displaced communities and stateless people.
