KARACHI: The Sindh government, in collaboration with the Citizen Archives of Pakistan, is planning to establish a history museum and cultural centre in Karachi.

Sindh chief secretary Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah held a meeting regarding the establishment of the history museum and cultural centre on Thursday, where he said that Sindh had played a significant role in the creation of Pakistan. The museum and the cultural centre will aim to engage citizens with interactive and special exhibits related to Pakistan's history with sections dedicated to Sindh and the city of Karachi.

The Citizens Archive of Pakistan's (CAP) patron-in-chief Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy said that the museum will showcase numerous stories of Pakistan's culture and history using rich archival content such as photographs, newspaper articles, personal letters, first-hand audio accounts and state-of-the-art learning.

She added that CAP had already identified some suitable buildings in Karachi for the proposed museum, which belong to Sindh Government and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).

The chief secretary directed Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Shallwani and the Metropolitan Commissioner Saif-ur-Rehman to survey the identified buildings and submit a report within a week.
