Cuban delegation visits National Institute of Health

NIH Islamabad is engaged in both research and the production of sera and vaccines

ISLAMABAD: The Vice President of Council of State Dr Roberto Morales Ojeda, and ministers of the Republic of Cuba along with an official delegation visited National Institute of Health (NIH)  Islamabad.

Senior officers form Ministry of Foreign Affairs were also present on the occasion. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen bilateral relationship and cooperation in public health issues.

NIH Islamabad is engaged in both research and the production of sera and vaccines that contribute in social, economic and health development of the country. NIH is also continuously engaged in developing bilateral and multilateral partnership with different countries in public health field to enhance capacity of the institute to benefit the people of Pakistan. NIH Executive Director Maj Gen Prof Aamer Ikram, briefed the delegation about mandate of NIH in public health field. He said that NIH is producing lifesaving vaccines and anti-sera for immunization and therapeutic use to control the infectious and non-communicable diseases in the country.

The executive director also said, “We’re very pleased to develop bilateral health relationship and collaborate closely with Government of the Republic of Cuba to support recommendations of International Health Regulations-2005.
