India’s Sanju Samson has broken Pakistan opener Abid Ali’s record of registering the highest individual score by a wicketkeeper-batsman in List A cricket.

Abid previously held the aforementioned record for scoring an unbeaten knock of 209 in 156 balls for Islamabad against Peshawar in the Pakistan’s National One-day cup in 2018.

While playing for Kerala against Goa in the Vijay Hazare Trophy on Saturday, Samson scored 212 not out in just 129 balls, which was his maiden List A century, to take his side to 377-3 in 50 overs. His unbeaten innings included 21 fours and 10 sixes.

The 24-year-old also has nine first-class and two Twenty20 centuries under his belt.

Apart from Samson and Abid, Pakistan’s Kamran Akmal is the only other wicketkeeper-batsman to score a double century in a 50-over domestic match.

Samson has only represented India in a single T20I. His sublime knock is likely to push his case for a recall to the Indian side in the limited-overs format.
