ISLAMABAD:

A writ petition has been filed in Islamabad High Court against embezzlement of Rs77.7 million. The amount was received by road construction contractor from Public Works Department without completion of the project.

Advocate High Court Sharafat Ali Chaudhry contended in his petition that a budgetary allocation of Rs 77.7 million for the construction of Khaira Distributor Road, which connects Barqi Road to Basti Dhorwal, Lahore, was earmarked by the Pakistan Public Works Department (PWD).

He pleaded that construction was not executed but funds were released to government contractor, Haji Muhammad Ismail of Lahore, who submitted bills with a statement that work on the project has been completed.
