Smoking ban

Letter October 10, 2019
As the harmful habit is increasing at a very fast rate

ISLAMABAD: For the last three to four months, the government of Pakistan has been taking serious action to ban smoking and the sale cigarettes. The harmful habit of smoking is increasing at a very fast rate. Perhaps the most harmful aspect is that teenagers are seriously addicted. The government has fined shopkeepers who are selling cigarettes within two-hundred meter radius of schools. The proposal to raise the legal age of buying tobacco from 16 to 18, to bring the sale of tobacco into line with the licensing laws, is also welcome. But it is necessary to completely ban smoking because it badly effects the youth of our nation by ruining their future. I urge the government of Pakistan to take serious notice of the issues involving cigarettes and other tobacco products and save the lives of teenagers.
