Equipment used to make suicide bomb vests also recovered

DI KHAN / SWABI: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) police on Sunday claimed to have foiled a major terror bid by recovering a large number of explosives, arms and ammunition in two different intelligence-based search and strike operations in Dera Ismail Khan on Sunday.

Separately, as many as 55 suspects were arrested and arms were recovered in similar operations in Swabi.

DI Khan police on Sunday said that they had recovered more than 20 kilogrammes of explosives, including improvised explosive devices, hand grenades, bulletproof jackets and other material used to make suicide bomb vests were seized from the basement of a house located in the Himmat village.

A further 30 kilogrammes of explosives were recovered during a raid near the Zafarabad area.

Swabi arrests

Police in Swabi have arrested 55 suspects and recovered a large cache of arms during a search and strike operation, officials said on Sunday.

Razzar police spokesperson Liaquat Ali said that squads from the two police stations within the circle, including Parmoli and Kalu Khan, had late on Saturday night conducted the search operation.

Supervised by Swabi District Police Officer Khalid Hamdani, the squads searched the border areas of Buner district. The police teams were assisted by other security forces in the area.

Around 100 houses were checked during the search and strike operation during which, officials claimed, they recovered weapons of various calibre. As many as 55 suspects were also arrested for their alleged involvement in different criminal activities and suspicions.

Police booked these men and launched investigations against them.
