LAHORE:

The All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) said on Saturday that they will not shut down their industrial units throughout Punjab from Monday if Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) continues the three-day a week gas outage schedule.

Federal Minister for Petroleum Asim Hussain assured that gas will be provided for five days from July 5 but SNGPL still announced a three-day gas outage schedule, said APTMA chairman Gohar Ijaz at a press briefing on Saturday. “I don’t know why SNGPL is not acting as per the minister’s direction,” he added.

“If SNGPL continues its three-day schedule after July 10 then we will defy orders and continue operations,” he said. SNGPL Managing Director Arif Hameed, however, assured APTMA that the company will act as per the minister’s instructions and provide continuous gas supply for five days a week to the textile industry.

“We reached the $14 billion export target despite 180 days of gas outages. This year’s target of $20 billion can only be reached if gas supply is supplied for five days a week, he said.
