Rs500m recovered by NAB K-P in 2 years

Justice Iqbal says that white-collar crimes, including mega corruption cases are their top priority

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (retired) Javed Iqbal on Tuesday visited the provincial office of the accountability watchdog and reviewed the performance of the regional office.

Chairing a meeting, Justice Iqbal said that white-collar crimes, including mega corruption cases are their top priority.

The NAB chairman clarified that NAB has decided not to take up cases relating to sales and income tax. All such existing cases have been transferred to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) while separate desks have been set up for the business community, he added.

Earlier, NAB K-P Chief Fayyaz Ahmad Qureshi said that they had recovered embezzled money worth Rs500 million over the past 22 months and distributed it amongst the affectees. Similarly, money looted through fake housing schemes in the province was recovered and returned.

The NAB chief was told that NAB K-P had received 10,085 complaints since October 2013, of which796 complaints were approved for investigation. Of these, they were still probing 68 cases. Moreover, since October 2013, NAB K-P had approved 403 inquiries of which 143 inquiries are still under process. Similarly NAB K-P approved 98 investigations during this period, of which 31 cases are still being probed. Of these, NAB K-P had filed 190 corruption references in accountability courts since 2017. Progress reports on BRT, Billion Tree Tsunami, Malam Jabba Resort, BoK and others were also shared.
